چکیده

Passeriform birds were studied as hosts of monoxenous coccidia (Eimeriidae). 571 faecal samp1es from 46 species were examined. Coccidia were found in 210 samples (36.8%) from 34 host species (73.9% of examined species). 36 oocyst types mostly belonging to the genus lsospora were found (33 types); oocysts of the genera Caryospora and Eimeria were also noted. Caryospora is reported for the first time from the genus Acrocephalus. Infections were mostly single (91.4%), blit multiple infections were also found. Problems of species determination in eimeriid coccidia from birds are discussed, as well as the possibility that every species of passerine bird in Central Europe can act as a host for at least one species of monoxenous coccidia.

A description of two new species of coccidia (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) from African reptiles with nomenclatural corrections for two Caryospora and one Eimeria species from snakes.

Two new species of coccidian parasites are described from African reptiles. Oocysts of Eimeria foulshami sp. n. from the plated lizard Gerrhosaurus major bottegoi Del Prato of Sudan are ellipsoidal, 24.1 x 14.9 (23-26.5 x 14-17.8) microm with a bilayered, colourless oocyst wall and lack polar granules. The ellipsoidal sporocysts average 8.6 x 4.6 (7-10.6 x 4.4-7) microm and possess a prominent,...

Description of Eimeria arabukosokokensis sp. n. (Apicomplexa: eimeriidae) from Telescopus semiannulatus (Serpentes: Colubridae) with notes on eimerian coccidia from snakes of Eastern Kenya.

Parasitological examination of faeces of 26 snakes kept in Bio-Ken Snake Farm, Watamu, Kenya revealed new species of Eimeria Schneider, 1875 in Telescopus semiannulatus Smith, 1849. Oocysts of Eimeria arabukosokokensis sp. n. are cylindrical 26.8 (25-29) x 15.1 (14-16) microm with smooth, bilayered oocyst wall and a single polar granule. The broadly ellipsoidal sporocysts average 9.3 (8.5-10) x...

Caryospora neofalconis and other enteroparasites in raptors from Mexico

A coprological survey of enteroparasites in raptors (60 Falconiformes) from Central Mexico is reported. Three samples contained coccidian unsporulated oocysts, one contained Eimeria sp., one contained trematode eggs and one contained capillarid and trematode eggs and Eimeria sp. After sporulation at the laboratory, oocysts from a Falco peregrinus were identified as Caryospora neofalconis. The p...

Caryospora maxima sp. n. (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae), new coccidium from Forskal’s sand snake, Psammophis schokari (Serpentes: Colubridae) from lava desert of Jordan

A new coccidian parasite of the genus Caryospora Léger, 1904 is described from the colubrid snake Psammophis schokari (Forskål, 1775). Oocysts of Caryospora maxima sp. n. are spherical or subspherical, 43.0 (40.0-46.0) × 42.1 (40.0-44.0) μm, with smooth and bilayered oocyst wall ca. 2.0 μm thick. A micropyle, oocyst residuum and polar granule are absent. Sporocysts are broadly ellipsoidal, 21.3...

Caryospora simplex (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) from a captive Kaznakov's viper (Vipera kaznakovi).

Caryospora simplex is reported for the first time from the feces of a captive female Kaznakov's viper (Vipera kaznakovi) in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA). Coccidian meronts and gamonts were observed in the intestinal epithelial cells of another female Kaznakov's viper that died in October 1993.
